Ada Lovelace's notes on Babbage's Analytical Engine demonstrated that the machine could be used for purposes beyond numerical calculations.

"The Analytical Engine weaves algebraic patterns just as the Jacquard loom weaves flowers and leaves." Let's celebrate, today is Ada Lovelace Day! Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron, was a pioneering mathematician. Known for creating the first machine algorithm for Babbage's Analytical Engine, she is widely celebrated as the first programmer. Happy Ada Lovelace Day! "Babbage saw the analytical engine as a mathematical device. After all, it primarily stored and operated on numbers. But Lovelace recognized that a machine designed to crunch numbers could do much more if the numbers represented other things." https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ada-lovelaces-180-year-old-notes-previewed-the-future-of-computers/ (Archived: https://web.archive.org/web/20260826192534/https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ada-lovelaces-180-year-old-notes-previewed-the-future-of-computers/) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ada_Lovelace_Day #AdaLovelace #computers #STEM #WomenInStem #AdaLovelaceDay
