Amiga Developers Live Stream Code Packages While Hardware Scarcity Sparks Chip Feasibility Fears

[email protected] is actively developing and streaming a 'Sublime Text Amiga Dev Package' using Assembly and the MC68000 on a live stream. Furthermore, users are showing tangible interest in specific, older hardware, naming the Amiga A1222 motherboard and the AmigaOne. The community is split over modern Amiga build feasibility. Some users are focused on sourcing desirable vintage gear like the Amiga A1222 and AmigaOne. Conversely, yuser [email protected] explicitly challenges this, arguing that new designs hinge on unobtainable or prohibitively expensive chips, specifically naming the A1200 dependency. The commitment to the Amiga platform remains technically active through streaming development work. However, the core technical argument is a deep division: practical enthusiasm for specific vintage hardware clashes directly with skepticism regarding the true affordability and availability of necessary core chips for contemporary builds.

Key points

SUPPORT
Development work continues actively on the Amiga platform.
[email protected] is live-streaming the completion of the 'Sublime Text Amiga Dev Package' using Assembly/MC68000.
SUPPORT
Specific, desirable vintage hardware components are being sought.
[email protected] confirmed interest in the 'Amiga A1222 motherboard' and 'AmigaOne'.
OPPOSE
Modern Amiga builds face serious doubts about chip cost.
[email protected] questioned if new designs rely on 'unobtainium chips' or assume an 'increasingly expensive!' A1200.
SUPPORT
The development stream confirms current technical application.
[email protected] repeatedly advertised live coding sessions focused on Amiga development.
MIXED
The core discussion centers on hardware sourcing difficulty.
The contrast exists between naming specific available boards (A1222) versus questioning the base chips (Alice, Lisa, Paula) needed for new builds.

I’ve seen a few new Amiga designs pop up over the last few years, but they all seem to rely on the same handful of what I assume are unobtanium chips. Is there actually a stash of affordable Alice, Lisa, & Paula chips out there, or are all these builds based on the assumption that you’re hacking up an (increasingly expensive!) A1200 ? #amiga #retroComputing
