Age verification laws are not just bad policy, they are not effective, as this study out of Australia shows. Kids can easily get around them. 80% of Australian minors continue to use social media despite a nationwide ban on it. It's much better to mandate source code publishing for platform algorithms, force all influencers (including political) to disclose payments, and enforce slander and fraud laws against individuals and platforms. https://www.bmj.com/content/393/bmj-2026-363695
