"An innocent man from Dartmouth, N.S., spent 18 months in prison because of a police typo"

Quote:
"... Police arrested [innocent man] and executed a search warrant, seizing phones and laptops from his home.
They were unable to find any evidence linking him to the offences, yet he was still sentenced to prison for his erroneous association with the alleged offender's username."
A man was convicted without any evidence linking him to the crime.
Talk about kangaroo court.
I expect more instances like this one if Bill C22 becomes law.
Could the spy-gear they want to install at every ISP be used as a weapon of intimidation?

For anyone who believes the "if you have nothing to hide" crap.
Here is an example of how every level of the justice system failed one person.
"How a single underscore led to an innocent Halifax man's conviction"

An innocent man spent 18 months in jail.
The incompetance of law enforcement should be a concern for everyone.
I'm not convinced that anyone involved in this miscarriage of justice will ever be held accountable.
Now what happens after Bill C22 gets royal assent and law enforcement begins to issue arrest orders based on IP adresses?
What if the spy gear they want to install at every ISP makes a mistake or a police officer using such a system makes a mistake?
Could the actual IP address stored in the spy gear be modified by a bad actor?
Would a judge issue a search warrent based on an IP address that might not even be current?
Unless an ISP customer orders a static IP address then there is no way to be sure that an IP address would not change suddenly without notice.
I have seen IP addresses change in an instant (for example after some type of power blip).
Many police officers believe that IP addresses do not change with time.
IMO Bill C22 will make everything worse.
