Bluesky Outage Sparks Comparison to Eurosky, Amid Claims of Deceit and Failed Governance

Governance & PoliticsApr 18, 2026score 0.573 posts · 0 replies across 3 instances
A recent reported outage on the Bluesky network triggered immediate scrutiny regarding its infrastructure reliability and transparency. Users are actively comparing the service's perceived failures to the promotion of the European alternative, Eurosky. The argument splits sharply. One camp alleges Bluesky exhibits centralized control despite its decentralized branding, citing a co-founder's reported request for €100,000 donations for an 'App-Backend' after the downtime (@[email protected]). Another contingent pushes Eurosky as the mandated, robust European counter to Big Tech (@[email protected]). Furthermore, technical critiques target the platform's status reporting, claiming the official status page misrepresents the true operational status of API endpoints (@[email protected]). The consensus points to a deep distrust in Bluesky's current governance and transparency. The core fault line exists between those who view the infrastructure as inherently flawed and commercially suspect, and those who actively promote rival European ecosystems.

@heiseonline @Golem
