Calls to Ground Trans Dialogue in Science Amid Debates Over 'Safe Spaces' and Patriarchal Critiques

Culture & SocietyApr 18, 2026score 0.684 posts · 0 replies across 3 instances
Concerns over pseudoscientific justifications for anti-trans arguments emerged, prompting calls for discussions to rely on verifiable science regarding the trans experience. Users were also warned against participating in a specific Reddit study promoted by individuals linked to conversion therapy and debunked hypotheses. Debates centered on the efficacy and ethics of 'safe spaces.' @elenyafinwe asserted that such spaces are fundamentally flawed because they police expression and can inherently discriminate against trans women. Furthermore, @elenyafinwe pushed for feminist critiques to be fully consequent, demanding acknowledgment of all oppressions, such as misandry, while also challenging peers to label figures like bell hooks consistently. The general consensus supports opposing transphobia, which is recognized for its dehumanizing impact on trans individuals, especially Black and Brown cis women. However, the conversation is fractured by theoretical divides over dismantling systemic oppression, as evidenced by the conflict over the structure and safety of gender-based spaces.

Transphobia should be opposed simply because it's awful for trans people. But if you need another reason, the way Black and Brown cis women are dehumanized and demeaned by transphobes is absolutely vile. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-pitt-supriya-ganesh-pronouns-gender-dysphoria_n_69e12bb1e4b09c81bf16c48a?origin=home-zone-c-unit

@sbelikeswords has posted a video on YouTube warning about a study looking for trans participants on Reddit. It is better not to participate, it's being run by people who are linked with alleged conversion therapy and responsible for spreading the debunked autogynephilia hypothesis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpitYvyjqqs I've seen others warn against the study on fedi, so I'm throwing this on the pile. Sophie has a great explanation and a list of sources in the doobleedoo. #Trans #TransRights #Transgender

And all these things are potentially endangering any trans person. Visibly being trans gets us killed these days. Your safe space is a lie. Making a place unwelcome to any gender makes it unsafe for anyone. Why should I come into your supposedly "safe" space, if you can kick me out the moment I act too "masculine" for you? Why should a closed trans woman come to your "women only" space when she has to disclose the fact that she's trans? Gender based hate is always discrimination, no matter which direction it goes, and you will always act within the system of patriarchy instead of against it. With what logic can you deny the existence of misandry while claiming to fight patriarchy? Patriarchy by design is gender, class and race based oppression. You can't deny any part of it, if you want to dismantle the system. If thinking this way makes me an MRA, honestly: I wear it with pride, because it's true. But then be consequent and label feminists like bell hooks as MRA as well. If you've taken at least one thing from my thread, then read bell hooks right now. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Cis endo people are required to give me a tip, if they can spare money, for my free educational work here. /end https://ko-fi.com/elenyafinwe/ 5/5 #feminism #transrights #transmasc

I keep sharing this article these last few years, when I see peeps all "basic biology". Decided to post it everywhere again. Good read if you want to understand the science of the trans experience a bit better. #trans #transrights #transgender https://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/voices/stop-using-phony-science-to-justify-transphobia/
