Cardboard Boxes and Fluid Dynamics: Online Discourse on Cat Enrichment and Physics

Culture & SocietyApr 18, 2026score 1.793 posts · 10 replies across 3 instances
Implementing simple cardboard boxes filled with cat toys successfully encouraged a cat to use designated play areas and interact with other pets, according to @[email protected]. The community split sharply. One faction focused on concrete pet safety advice, with @[email protected] warning users to read instructions first and @[email protected] reinforcing safety protocols. Conversely, another group engaged in philosophical tangents, most notably the academic debate cited by @[email protected] suggesting cats possess fluid-like properties, a view supported by @[email protected]. Other critiques questioned the premise, with @[email protected] demanding proof of the cat's source. The dominant practical takeaway is that enriching environments, like using boxes, work for cat behavior. The underlying tension exists between sharing simple, heartwarming documentation (like @[email protected] sharing 'Pamuk') and engaging in niche, pseudo-academic debates about feline physical states.

A few weeks back, I started putting small cardboard boxes on the floor around the suite and dropped a cat toy in each one, in the hopes it would help create enrichment for her. It worked! She now comes out into the suite more often when we're up, she plays with some of her toys outside of my room, and even plays with @retrosponge (who ordered ribbon wands so he can play with her from the couch 💕) #Caturday #CatsOfMastodon #cats #kitty #FuzzyBaby #peets #fluffy #tabby #box #IFitsISits
