#ScribesAndMakers 6 Oct On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story? Necessary? 1. There has to be at least one thing that needs to be resolved. A story can contain many other things that are compelling: interesting and fun characters, snappy dialogue, beautiful descriptions, mystery, wonder. Usually there's more than one thing to resolve, but 1 is necessary.

#ScribesAndMakers Oct 6th - On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story? I don't believe you need conflict at all, so I suppose that must mean zero. On the other hand, I write loads of it, everything from crabbit disputes over the breakfast table to full-scale blood-soaked battles. ...I need to relax more. 🤔

#ScribesAndMakers Oct 6: "On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story?" Personally? None. "Compelling" can take many forms beyond conflict. Curiosity and hope are two that drive me as a reader.

#ScribesAndMakers – 6th Oct. On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story? I imagine a story would be rather dull if there was 0 conflict. It would depend on the genre: I tend to have around 50/50 but would expect higher in a thriller, mystery, etc.

#ScribesAndMakers 6/10: On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story? Seems like people have different ideas about what 'conflict' means in a story. For me, it's anything the character comes up against that causes them to change their perspective and/or take action they wouldn't otherwise take - and it can be very small. An example: Lucy is heading off to work but her car won't start (and, in fact, will never start again). Conflict is essential for stories to work. It's what makes things move along, what tips the characters into action and makes the reader want to keep on reading. Conflict should be on every page, in every paragraph, basically, constant. Or the story isn't going anywhere.

#ScribesAndMakers October 6th On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story? -5 Our whole reality is driven by conflicts, and I have the feeling that this isn't absolutely necessary for storytelling.

#ScribesAndMakers – 6th Oct. On a scale of 0-100, how much conflict (however you personally define it) is necessary for a compelling story? I believe that an arresting fantasy story might not have any conflicts at all. Let’s imagine that the main characters have Superstrength, Superintelligence... In that case, their clashes with the ordinary world would be nothing but obstacles and nuisances...
