#Tolkien said the reason he cordially detested allegory was “the purposed domination of the author.” The most important lesson to take away from #LotR is that dominating other people is bad! 
It’s fine, and even desirable, to look for connections between Middle-earth and our primary world, but the author doesn’t force it on you, so it’s not allegory.
