Inordinately pleased about this year's Nobel Prize in Physics. Francis Halzen is an immigrant (originally from Belgium), a visionary physicist, and also an all-around mensch. I like to see good people winning well-deserved recognition. Also, neutrinos are awesome.
Neutrino physicist wins 2026 Nobel Physics Prize. Francis Halzen of University of Wisconsin-Madison led development of IceCube Neutrino Observatory, which became to first to detect "high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin." https://arstechnica.com/science/2026/10/neutrino-physicist-wins-2026-nobel-physics-prize/

Wow. Francis Halzen wins the Nobel prize in phyiscs. A great colleague who has pushed the field to a new level, led the IceCube project on Antarctica, and helped to discover extragalactic Neutrinos. Originally Belgium he now works in the US, but I can still talk Dutch to him 😉

Francis Halzen wins Nobel Prize in physics for work on high-energy neutrinos from space.
From @npr: "Neutrinos are tiny cosmic particles with a mind-bogglingly small mass. Yet they are everywhere: they spew from stars like the sun and trillions zip through our bodies every second."
