German Book Imports and E-Reader Integration Face Data Hurdles on BookWyrm Platform

[email protected] released version 0.1.0 of the BookWyrm koplugin, allowing users to view BookWyrm bookshelves and check out titles directly from eReaders like KOreader, following the developer's jailbreak of a Kindle for the project. Users are struggling with foundational data imports. @[email protected] demands a mass import method for German books, questioning if bulk ISBN input is possible beyond manual uploads. Meanwhile, @[email protected] documented that importing Calibre reading history proved highly unreliable, with many ISBN-tagged books failing to match or remaining in a 'pending' state. @[email protected] also suggested expanding library sharing parity with services like Funkwhale. The core functionality of BookWyrm requires significant backend overhaul. The consensus is that achieving stable, bulk data synchronization—especially for non-English content like German publications or full library archives—is currently impossible via simple methods. Technical integration remains brittle and incomplete.

Key points

OPPOSE
Mass ISBN import for German publishers is sought but unconfirmed.

Calibre history import into BookWyrm is unreliable.

The koplugin enables eReader sync, but its functionality is limited.

question to the #bookwyrm community: on bookwyrm.social you have the possiblity to search and import books through https://inventaire.io/ but there aren't the German books I was searching for. is there, for a German publisher, the possiblity to do a mass import to bookwyrm? Or, beside of me uploading each book manually, is there a way of importing ISBNs? @bookwyrm #bookwyrm #bookstodon

shipping v0.1.0 for bookwyrm.koplugin! I've been working on this for a bit and I think it's in a good place for people to use, test, and give feedback. I jailbroke my kindle just to use this! Using KOreader, view your bookwyrm bookshelves and checkout books that are already in your eReader library. Also a shoutout to @bookwyrm https://codeberg.org/BenDoubleU/bookwyrm.koplugin #BookWyrm #KOReader #bookstodon #fediverse #opensource

I'm experimenting with @bookwyrm . I was able to install it via @yunohost , but already importing my reading history from Calibre turned out challenging - half of the books (most with ISBN) were not matched, while the other half was still pending after 8 hours... Also it'd be good to be able to share book library directly with a #Bookwyrm community (like @funkwhale for music) instead of only reading habits. Would that be possible to implement? #books #Fediverse
