Google Maps changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in response to political pressure.

Google Maps capitulates to Trump, renaming Lake Ontario Lake America; this follows their previous capitulation, following Trump's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico. MapQuest has maintained the names Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico in their app. We have removed the Google Maps apps from our phones and replaced it with the MapQuest app. https://www.rawstory.com/trump-lake-ontario-2677795579/

Google caved & renamed The Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. They did what the #MadKing decreed. Now, on August 30, 2026, Google Maps displays the name Lake America when showing Lake Ontario. Google's AI hasn't caught up & still says Lake Ontario. It's digital & malleable, so I expect change is coming. They have decided it's good for their bottom line to appease the King. But Mapquest has refused to change the name, let's increase their profits & use them! https://www.mapquest.com/
