On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas and announced that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people were free, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
That day became Juneteenth: America's second Independence Day. A celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward true equality.

Happy Juneteenth, everyone.
On June 19th, 1865, the last enslaved people in the United States finally learned they were free. It took two and a half years after emancipation for that word to reach them.
We mark the day because freedom delayed is still worth celebrating, and because there is a loud, well-funded movement working right now to erase that history, roll back civil rights, and convince people that some of us matter more than others because of the color of our skin.
Never forget what this day cost. Never let them rewrite it.
A better world only exists when equality, equity, and justice belong to everyone, not just those handed an advantage they never earned.
We stand with all who are oppressed, all who are gaslit. We are stronger together.
Hate will not win.
