Moss Observations Range From Forest Cleanup to Carbon Sequestration Claims

Climate & EnvironmentApr 19, 2026score 0.716 posts · 0 replies across 6 instances
Users shared numerous photographs and anecdotal accounts detailing various instances of moss growth across diverse settings, including temperate rainforests, front porches, and woodland paths. Commentators offered varied focuses: @[email protected] noted forestry work in Lowther forest clearing old plantations to allow natural fells to develop. Meanwhile, @[email protected] used the moss sightings to simultaneously vent about the state of the English health system. A significant tangent came from @[email protected], who shifted the conversation toward the ecological function of spaghnum moss, specifically its capacity for carbon sequestration. The focus remains observational, centering on the aesthetic presence of moss in nature. While gardening advice regarding lawn care and bog moss chemistry emerged, the primary discourse is a collection of personal nature snapshots, lacking any single, unified objective or point of sustained conflict.

Ever wondered how much moss you can grow on a picnic table if you leave it in temperate rainforest for a while? I got you, boo ⬇️ #mosstodon

Not radio toot Out in Lowther forest this morning in the drizzle. There is a lot of forestry work going on to clear the older plantations so more natural fells can develop. It looks a mess now but in a few years it'll be as it should. Here's some moss for all you moss fans. The tadpole photos didn't come out well because Sally dog kept liking the puddles #mosstodon

It's one of those days when a walk in the woods is the only answer (whatever the question was)... That, or a bike ride, but I wouldn't have spotted this moss on the tree beside the path from my bike. And can I just say that the 'health system' in England is the pits? #EllieKPosts #Mosstodon #woodland #moss #forest

We made a short on pots&trowels about controlling moss in a lawn. Might also need one about how amazing spaghnum moss is at sequestering carbon #gardening #lawncare #moss #grass #horticulture
