#ScribesAndMakers 14/6: Most people are opposed to gatekeeping, but (aside from the obvious need to keep out AI garbage), do you think there should be any form of "quality control" when it comes to self-published work? No. The whole point of self-publishing is that anyone can publish anything. I've heard people saying things like, you should have to 'hire a professional editor' but mostly this view comes from those 'professional editors' who are mostly just sharks. It doesn't matter what I think anyway because I don't see how it would be possible. And even the AI thing - you can't stop people doing that and there is no need to. AI can't write a book. I had a go at reading the other book by that Shy Girl woman. It was random words in a random order. If anyone thinks that's a book they don't know how to read.

#ScribesAndMakers 14th Jun ~ Most people are opposed to gatekeeping, but (aside from keeping out AI garbage), do you think there should be any form of "quality control" when it comes to self-published work? I've seen some terrible work published in the traditional way, and some fantastic work under the self-published label. In my opinion, quality is determined by the authors and the readers, it doesn't need to be controlled. #Writer #WritingCommunity #WritersofMastodon
