The Canadian government's decision to shut down the weather radio service and replace it with an app-based system is an inadequate solution for rural areas with limited internet access.

I can't believe that the Canadian government shut down the weather radio service. How is anyone supposed to get weather updates outside of a city now? This was an essential service and they just turned it off and told people to use an app, when there is no public telecom operator, and the vast majority of the country doesn't have internet cell service. Absolutely ridiculous. Radios were perfect for this use case. Now you need a sat phone subscription?? #canada #hiking #backpacking

I can't believe that the Canadian government shut down the weather radio service. Forcing you to use a phone app allows the gov anf googlr to track every move you make....
