The U.S. government's executive order led to Google Maps renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' for U.S. users.

Google changing the name of Lake Ontario made me go and leave a review of Lake America calling them punk ass bitches for doing it. Fuck them.

“Google's Calling Lake Ontario 'Lake America' Now” https://www.404media.co/google-maps-lake-america-lake-ontario-name-change/ Fuck you, Google.

Google Maps renames "Lake Ontario" to "Lake America" even faster than US government Google rolled out the Lake America change on Saturday, while the official US government maps are still waiting. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/08/google-maps-renames-lake-ontario-to-lake-america-even-faster-than-us-government/?utm_brand=arstechnica&utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social

Lake Ontario now called Lake America on Google Maps for U.S. users after Trump ordered name change https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/lake-ontario-now-called-lake-america-on-google-maps-for-u-s-users-after-trump-ordered-name-change?utm_source=flipboard&utm_medium=activitypub Posted into Politics @politics-PBSNewsHour

Google Maps now shows Lake Ontario as "Lake America" for U.S. users, after an executive order and a federal name-database update. Canadians still see Lake Ontario, and everyone else sees both names. Meanwhile, Apple Maps hasn't budged, and MapQuest flat-out refused ("We're not changing it"). Sound familiar? Same drill as the Gulf rename, when reviews got so spicy Google shut them off. FYI, your GPS still knows the way. The lake, for its part, declined to comment.
