#UN says we’re going to blow past 1.5º warming, offers a “now what?” answer For first time, #UNEP acknowledged reality and conceded keeping warming below 1.5° was no longer viable. New goal focus on keeping both how long we exceed that limit and how much we exceed it by, at a minimum. Requires both dramatic #emissions cuts and removal of hundreds of gigatonnes of #carbondioxide from the atmosphere. Best case is now an overshoot to 1.8º C & massive carbon removal. https://arstechnica.com/science/2026/10/un-accepts-the-obvious-were-not-going-to-avoid-a-1-5o-c-warming/ #climate
