Trans Visibility Focuses on Civil Rights Amid Arguments Over Identity's Tangibility
Key points
SUPPORT
Trans people are concrete individuals, not an abstract concept or 'thing'.
Asserted by @[email protected], who directly confronted the idea of trans existence being treated as an abstract 'thing'.
SUPPORT
Opposition to trans rights is rooted in external misinformation, not real-world interaction.
According to @[email protected], anti-trans sentiment is fueled by 'dubious media pipelines that have anti-trans input or agendas.'
SUPPORT
Trans Visibility frames itself as a core civil rights issue.
Highlighted by @[email protected], who stated validity applies even to those who are not safe or ready to come out.
SUPPORT
Support remains active and visible across the spectrum of the LGBTQIA community.
Demonstrated by simple, direct solidarity from users like [[email protected]].
MIXED
The concept of transition itself is subject to narrative correction.
When correcting misinformation, @[email protected] linked an external source to refute the claim that all transitions occur only after consultation with another trans person.

Trans Day of Visibility was yesterday, but still...
- You are valid, even if you don't feel able and/or safe to come out of the closet or still figuring out things...

IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS TODAY...
I normally start my day with a walk in the woods. Surrounded by earth, trees and little critters, its a nice place to start the day in some kind of peace (especially if you go early enough before the dog walkers turn up).
And so to this morning. Two olds were talking to each other in the car park before the path to the woods and as I walk past them one says to the other he's been having "lots of arguments about 'this trans thing'." "This trans thing?" I think to myself. And so it began.
Sorry, I said to the old, I couldn't help but overhear you said "This trans thing". But there is no "trans thing". You are talking about people. Trans people. Its not a "thing". Its real people.
The old was taken aback and the other one just looked. "What's the problem?" I continued, wagering in my head that this old had never even met anyone who was trans let alone interacted with them. All the old offered as problematic was that "They want special rights" which clearly smacked of someone being fed information through dubious media pipelines that have anti-trans input or agendas. I asked if he knew any trans people and he of course said no.
I then told him (and his colleague who stayed silent throughout) about my trans niece. She is a shy and quite anonymous twentysomething. She is not a political activist or a militant. She simply wants to get on with her life like pretty much any actual trans person you could meet. You could even say she just wants to be left alone and not targeted. She doesn't want "special rights" but just the same ones as everyone else. If all she and pretty much all other trans people want to do is that then what's the "problem"?
The old said nothing. So I carried on.
And besides, I added, even if you set aside the reality of transness and, say, you had simply a man (a cis man, that is) who liked dressing in women's clothes and wanted to be called Shirley what would it matter provided they did you no harm and you did them no harm? Their benign existence is not causing anyone any real problem. How people think about themselves is not socially important so much as how we behave towards each other and there you will find that its the mass of absolutely not trans people who are the overwhelming problem. Perhaps concentrate on them first before you begin the trans pogroms.
And then I walked on into the woods. They were gone when I came back.
I also met lots of crows in the woods. Their population seems to be thriving.
