I've released Sound Canvas Bridge, a Mac-only AU, VST3 and standalone MIDI module for people who already own Sound Canvas VA. The front ends run natively on Apple Silicon, while the original Intel engine runs in a separate Rosetta helper. Logic and Komplete Kontrol can stay native. You need your own legitimate Sound Canvas VA VST installation: the download does not include Roland's engine or ROM files. The companion NKS pack contains 2,958 named program and drum-kit addresses, with previews, across the SC-55, SC-88, SC-88 Pro and SC-8820 maps. These are compatibility-map addresses, not 2,958 unique instruments. Browse Roland Cloud, Sound Canvas, then Programs or Drums. There are 66 controls, including tone and vibrato, reverb, chorus, delay, EQ and individual drum-note settings. Drum presets route keyboard notes to channel 10 and have their own useful pages. The bridge's own interface is keyboard- and VoiceOver-accessible too. I doubt Roland will ever patch this to work natively as VST3, and I was annoyed not having access to this, so I thought I might as well do something about it. Windows users can, I think, still use VST2, so you still benefit from Jason's presets. The standalone app accepts physical and virtual MIDI, including 16-part playback and SysEx, with a selectable audio output, menu-bar operation, optional login startup and update checking. Bridge latency defaults to 128 samples and can be adjusted for your system. I've tested this in Logic and Komplete Kontrol on Apple Silicon, as well as standalone playback from a physical MIDI input. Feedback from other Mac systems would be very welcome. This is an independent OnjMusic project, not an official Roland release. I've released Sound Canvas Bridge 1.2 for Mac and Windows: a VST3 plug-in and standalone MIDI sound module, plus an Audio Unit on Mac, for people who already own Sound Canvas VA. The bridge runs natively on Windows x64 and Intel or Apple Silicon Macs. On Apple Silicon, the original Intel engine runs in a separate Rosetta helper, so your DAW and Komplete Kontrol can stay native. You need your own legitimate Sound Canvas VA installation; no Roland engine or ROM files are included. The companion NKS pack contains 2,958 named program and drum-kit addresses, with previews and artwork, across the SC-55, SC-88, SC-88 Pro and SC-8820 maps. These are compatibility-map addresses, not 2,958 unique instruments. The same pack is for both platforms. Browse User, Roland Cloud, Sound Canvas, then Programs or Drums. There are now 93 controls, including tone shaping, vibrato, master settings, reverb, chorus, delay, EQ, individual drum-note settings and native insertion effects. You can select from 64 insertion algorithms plus Thru, edit all 20 parameter slots, adjust effect sends and choose which parts use the effect. The slots use numbered, raw values because their functions depend on the selected algorithm. Drum NKS presets route keyboard notes to channel 10 and have dedicated drum-editing pages. The bridge's own interface is keyboard- and screen-reader-accessible, with named controls, changing readouts, direct value entry and focused-control help on F1. The standalone accepts 16-part MIDI and SysEx through selectable physical or software MIDI inputs. Mac also provides its own virtual MIDI destination; Windows can receive through an existing loopback port. Audio output is selectable, with ASIO support on Windows. There's menu-bar or system-tray operation, optional login and hidden startup, and verified update checking. Bridge latency defaults to 128 samples and is adjustable from 32 to 2048. The new All option applies a sound map across all 16 parts. I wanted these sounds in modern hosts, with controls I can actually use, so I thought I might as well do something about it. I've tested Logic and Komplete Kontrol on Apple Silicon, plus standalone playback from a physical MIDI input. Windows standalone playback and automated VST3 tests also pass, including loading sounds from the existing NKS pack. Feedback from other systems is very welcome, particularly Komplete Kontrol on Windows, which still needs direct host and hardware testing. This is an independent OnjMusic project, not an official Roland release.
