July 1, 1943: On this date, openly gay Dutch artist & Dutch resistance fighter Willem Arondeus was executed by the Nazis. He took part in the successful bombing of the Amsterdam public records office, destroying 800,000 identity cards & hindering Nazi pursuit of Dutch Jews. Due to an unknown betrayer, Arondéus was arrested on April 1, 1943.
